Our History
2023—
Real Estate Development Club Rebranded as
REAL ESTATE CLUB
In 2023, the Real Estate Club emerged from the Real Estate Development (RED) Club at the Harvard University Graduate School of Design. This rebranding aligns with the introduction of the Master in Real Estate degree program in the Department of Urban Planning and Design, highlighting the Department's deep-rooted expertise in real estate and related disciplines.
The Department, renowned for hosting the Michael D. Spear Chair in Real Estate Development and the Plimpton Chair in Planning and Urban Economics, offers a comprehensive curriculum. This includes not only real estate courses but also a wide range of subjects like land use, environmental law, urban design, housing policy, transportation, international development, and the study of sustainable urban environments. This diverse academic offering reflects our commitment to shaping a holistic understanding of real estate, urban planning, and design.

Master of Design Studies, Real Estate and the Built Environment
LEGACY OF
MDES REBE
Established as part of a larger advanced studies initiative in 1986, the real estate track of the Master of Design Studies program offers a unique real estate education. GSD real estate alumni are uniquely positioned to become industry leaders, holding senior positions with established firms, directing private real estate corporations and public sector projects, and creating new disruptive business models through entrepreneurship.
“Together with alumni from across Harvard, the GSD alumni — from the MDes, MUP, and AMDP programs — constitute a broad cross-section of industry professionals who are helping to transform their cities and the built environment.”
- Richard Peiser, Michael D. Spear Professor of Real Estate Development
